Will a debt settlement plan help me in the long run? So what can these individuals do about this situation? A lot of individuals think about when seeking an option for credit card debt relief is to get a loan against the equity in their home and consolidate the credit card bills into one month to month installment with a reduced APR (Annual Percentage Rate). This can be referred to as a secured debt consolidation loan and can be unneccesarily risky. If the debtor turns around and falls past due on the loan they run the risk of getting their home foreclosed on.
