The popularity of has not been hit as

The popularity of personalised number plates has not been hit as hard as expected in the current economic downturn caused by the credit crunch and global economic slowdown. Although sales have slowed as expected there is still plenty of demand, it’s just that buyers are delaying there buying decision. January will be a crunch month as it is a traditonally slow sales month and this year could be worse than normal.

Don’t leave it too late to buy in

Don’t leave it too late to buy cherished number plates in time for christmas. If you want the number assigning to the car before christmas you must act now to beat the deadline and have the tax disc back in time. If you just want a certificate and do the transfer after the holidays you have a few more days to spare

New French

New French number plates. Plans to drop the area code identity in french registration numbers have been shelved after an outcry from French motorists. The new registration number system will have a component to it’s make up which will enable you to identify which area of the country the car is from. Paris number plates have been a liability though with Paris cars often scratched when in another area.

Just because you have a pair of old

Just because you have a pair of old number plates ( usually black and silver metal ones ) does not mean that you have the entitlement to the registration number shown on the plates. Entitlement to the registration number goes with the vehicle itself unless the number has been put onto a retention certificate, then it goes with that certificate and the grantee.

and you

Cherished number plates and you. Having bought your cherished number plates you may be wondering what you need to know now. If you have the registration number on a retention certificate or certificate of entitlement you must make a note of the expiry and make sure it is renewed up to 28 days before this date. If it is on a car you must remember to remove it before selling the car.

Foreign vehicles avoid number plate recognition policing

Foreign vehicles avoid number plate recognition policing. More and more offences are being detected and prosecutions secured using cctv linked to automatic number plate recognition software, however foreign vehicles are effectively exempt from these systems as their registration numbers are not on the DVLA database. Legislation has been changed to enable pan-european offences to attract licence penalty points but this isn’t going to happen via cctv.
