Portable trade show exhibits caught on very quickly during the 1980’s. The Pop Up Display, which like it sounds is an aluminum frame that pops up so that rollable panels can be applied, proved so popular that exhibit designers quickly latched onto the idea of designing portable panel systems. The would more closely replicate the look, or so the thinking went, of the custom plywood exhibits (that packed into wooden crates) they were meant to replace. As portables caught on, and more and more portable dealers were sprung up in cities across the country and the genre grew into a major industry.
